We are seeking additional funding to protect quality education for our students. To maintain current staff and programs and continue improving opportunities for students, ISD 622 is asking residents to consider an $800 per pupil operating levy this fall.

If voters approve the ballot question in November, ISD 622 would raise general education revenue by $800 per pupil each year for ten years, with an annual adjustment for inflation so the funding keeps pace with rising costs. The district plans to direct these dollars toward its highest priorities: protecting manageable class sizes, keeping essential student programs in place, retaining experienced teachers and support staff, and maintaining safe, secure buildings. It is worth noting that this request is different from the building bond voters approved two years ago. That bond funded upgrades to school facilities, while this operating levy supports operations such as teaching, classroom programs and student services.

While our schools receive less funding than neighboring districts, our students continue to achieve positive outcomes and surpass our high expectations. With additional revenue, we could do even more to support student achievement.
The district has already absorbed more than $15 million in budget cuts. Unfortunately, without additional operational revenue, 622 will make additional reductions impacting class size, positions and program offerings for students.
Thanks to community support in 2019, we updated our buildings to improve safety and security, energy efficiency, and learning spaces for students. A voter-approved operating levy would now support the day-to-day work that happens inside our buildings.
